Expression lines are the lines your facial movements create on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. At first they only appear when you move; over time, and with collagen loss, they can remain visible at rest. Knowing which of the two you have changes the treatment: botulinum toxin (Botox) relaxes the movement, while collagen and hydration improve the skin.
At our office in El Poblado, Dr. Olga Gómez Montoya, physician and surgeon trained at the University of Antioquia, studies your face at rest and in motion before proposing a plan. The goal is for you to look rested and fresh, without losing your expression.

They are lines that appear on the skin from repeating the same movement: raising your brows, frowning or smiling. There are two types, and telling them apart is the first step of treatment:
Many women have both at once: the line deepens with movement but is already noticeable at rest.
It's for you if…
It's not the right time if…
The most common are forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet. They also appear on the sides of the nose and above the upper lip. Each area has its own muscle, skin type and treatment.
01
Horizontal lines that appear when you raise your brows. They are the most common and can start to show from your 20s or 30s.
02
Vertical lines between the brows, caused by frowning. They can make you look tired, worried or upset when you're not.
03
Fan-shaped lines at the outer corners of the eyes that form when you smile. The skin here is thin and often also needs hydration and collagen.
Small lines on the sides of the nose that show when you laugh or scrunch your nose.
05
Vertical lines above the upper lip. They usually combine movement with collagen loss, which is why they are almost always treated with more than one technique.
They are not erased forever, but they can be visibly softened. Treatment depends on the type of line: if it is dynamic, we relax the movement; if it is already static, we also work on the skin. The best result almost always combines both.

For dynamic lines: it temporarily relaxes the muscle that creates the line on the forehead, between the brows and at the crow's feet. All three brands are authentic and registered with INVIMA (Colombia's national health products regulator); the choice depends on the area and how you have responded before.
For fine lines caused by dehydration, especially at the crow's feet and on the cheeks. They hydrate the skin from within without filling or changing your features.
For thin skin or skin with less collagen, as happens during menopause. They gradually improve the firmness and density of the skin over 2 to 3 months.
For lines that are already visible at rest, and for texture. They stimulate new collagen in the skin. If you're searching for “dermapen”, it's the same family of treatment: we use SkinPen®.

“When you leave here, you don't leave looking different: you leave more confident, more at ease, more yourself.” — Dr. Olga Gómez Montoya, physician and surgeon, University of Antioquia
Yes, it's common. Forehead lines don't depend on age alone: the strength of your muscles, how expressive you are, the sun and genetics all play a part. In younger people they are usually dynamic lines, which respond well to low doses of botulinum toxin. Sometimes sunscreen, hydration and a good routine are enough; your medical assessment will tell you which applies to you.
During menopause the skin loses collagen faster, and lines that used to appear only with movement begin to stay set. That's why, at this stage, toxin is often combined with collagen biostimulators or skinboosters, to work on both the muscle and the skin at the same time.
Expression lines are what concerns you; Botox is one of the tools used to treat them. This page helps you understand your lines and what treatment each one needs. If you already know you want botulinum toxin, our botulinum toxin page covers its brands, all the areas it treats and its medical uses.
Dr. Gómez looks at your face at rest and in motion to determine whether your lines are dynamic, static or both, and reviews your skin and medical history.
She defines which technique each line needs, the brand and the dose. We show you every product and its INVIMA registration. Less is more.

They are lines that form in the skin from repeating the same movement, such as raising your brows, frowning or smiling. They appear mainly on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes, in what are known as crow's feet. At first they only show with movement and, over the years, they can remain visible at rest.
Dynamic lines appear only when you make an expression and respond very well to botulinum toxin. Static lines are visible even when your face is at rest, because the skin has already lost collagen and elasticity. Static lines usually also need treatments that stimulate collagen or hydrate the skin.
It depends on the type of line. If it only appears when you raise your brows, botulinum toxin softens it by relaxing the frontalis muscle. If it is already visible at rest, it is combined with skinboosters, biostimulators, microneedling or laser to improve the skin. Lines are not erased forever, but they can be visibly softened.
They are softened by relaxing part of the muscle around the eye with botulinum toxin, without losing your smile. Because the skin in this area is thin, treatment is often complemented with skinboosters such as Profhilo® or with microneedling to improve texture.
Yes, it's common. It depends on the strength of your muscles, how expressive you are, the sun and your genetics, not just your age. In younger people, lines are usually dynamic and respond well to low doses of botulinum toxin. Your medical assessment determines whether it's the right time or whether caring for your skin is enough.
For lines that appear with movement, botulinum toxin type A, with brands such as Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin®. For lines that are already visible at rest, treatments that improve the skin are added, such as biostimulators, skinboosters, SkinPen® or CO2 laser. The combination is decided during your medical assessment.
Creams with retinoids, antioxidants and moisturizers improve skin quality, and sunscreen helps with prevention. But they don't relax the muscle that creates the line, so they are no substitute for medical treatment once the line is set.
In part. Daily sunscreen, not smoking, sleeping well and keeping your skin hydrated all help. When a line starts to form with movement, botulinum toxin applied early and in low doses can help it become less visible at rest over the years.
At our office we use Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® botulinum toxin; skinboosters such as Profhilo®, Restylane® Skinboosters and Juvéderm® Volite; biostimulators such as Sculptra®, Radiesse® and Juvelook®; microneedling with SkinPen®; and the Alma Hybrid™ CO2 laser. All injectable products are registered with INVIMA.
It depends on the areas, the type of line and the techniques you need. During your consultation in El Poblado, we explain the plan and the investment clearly.
During your consultation, Dr. Olga will tell you what type of lines you have, what treatment each one needs and what can be achieved. No promises of perfect skin.
